DIY Knitting Patterns and Tutorials

Knitting is one of the crafts I’ve been meaning to learn forever. Years ago, I received a ‘how to’ knitting book with all the supplies needed for beginners. I must have looked over the book and tried to knit a bunch of different ways for over a week – but just couldn’t get anywhere! I’m thinking about going to a class at Jo-Ann’s – hopefully they can teach me! In the mean time, here are some free patterns and tutorials for those who can knit.

Toilet Paper Rolls: What Can I Do With Them?

Honestly, I’m amazed. I didn’t think you could do anything with toilet paper rolls! I am obviously proven wrong. I might have to try the toilet paper roll ornament, seriously! It doesn’t look anything like a TP roll when it’s finished! Oh – and I HAVE to do the pixelated boy. HAVE TO!

Man… this has got to be the weirdest post yet. I mean.. just thinking about using toilet paper rolls kind of freaks me out – but they have been crafted with! What a unique way to recycle!

Old Skool and Burnt Out Light Bulbs: What Can I Do With Them?

When I moved into the new house, my fiance and I made a pact: to never ever use incandescent light bulbs, and to only use CFL bulbs. Let’s face it – you save so much more money with them! Since we consistently are forgetting to turn off the lights, doing this was truly worth it. My fiance even wrote a post about how green we plan to be!

Our new house was covered in ‘old skool light bulbs’ as I like to call them. They are now sitting in a box in the garage – waiting to be crafted with. Honestly, before I found some of these tutorials, I was just going to throw them out on the curb in a box that said “FREE.” Never mind to that! Holy Packaging Batman! There are so many tutorials for this subject – it’s crazy! Old, Boring T-Shirts: What Can I Do With Them?

I saved so many of my shirts from going to concerts, vacations, summer camps, etc. because I wanted to make a sweet t-shirt quilt one day. So far, that hasn’t really happened. However, I do recommend an AMAZING book if you do want to make a t-shirt quilt. It is extremely easy to understand for beginner quilters like myself, and is really interesting! It’s called: The Extraordinary T-Shirt Quilt: A Scrapbook You Can Sleep Under by Lauren Kingsland. You can pick up the book for as low as $15.50! Pretty sweet.

Oh yeah – and I have the biggest collection of BORING shirts. They have basically been sitting in my closet unworn for years. Something MUST BE DONE… and SOON!

Wire Hangers: What Can I Do With Them?

Spoon gets all of his work shirts dry cleaned every couple of weeks, and when we get them back, there’s a white wire hanger on each one. We have accumulated more wire hangers than the clothes we have, so I started thinking about what could be done with them.

So far, all we’ve done with them involved cutting them and bending them to make stakes to hold down our Halloween decorations into the ground. They worked really well and none of our stuff blew away. Yay!

But hey – I still have a TON left, and more are coming. I did my homework – here are some fun and awesome things that you can make or do with your wire hangers. Yay!
