MY STRUGGLE To Find The Right Wedding Dress Pattern!

I’m getting married in August of next year.

So… I gotta pick a pattern for my wedding dress. I’m making it myself. The thing is – I can’t find the “perfect” one.. There’s something I hate about every one I find, but I’ve come down to these:

  • I like the back part with the buttons, but I think the bottom part is too plain and I hate the weird veil. I refuse to wear a veil! I do NOT like them. As for the top, I’m unsure of how it will actually look, so I am still pondering it:

  • Simple, but still not the one:

  • I kinda like this one, but I’m thinking the bottom part is TOO dressy… and I want straps (which can be easily accomplished) but.. I dunno. It just doesn’t seem right. I LOVE the bottom, but I don’t know if it’s “too” bulky, you know what I mean?:

  • Again.. I don’t know. This one seems a little less bulky, and I like the design. I COULD wear red as the band and add straps and awesome looking buttons to the back:

  • And these ones look like plain ol’ lingerie of some kind. Actually, they ARE! I just found that out, LOL. So this one is totally out – but I wanted to share it for some reason anyways:

  • I’m looking  at Pattern C here – although I wouldn’t want a halter top. Totally fixable:

  • Hm… Simple! But too simple? I hate the weird shawl things, so ignore those. I’m looking at the top middle one:

  • I enjoy the layering on this one. Layering looks awesome! But, I want a different type of layering, and without weird sleeve things, and a little bulkier:

Suggestions? Anyone? Got a wedding dress pattern website for me? I can’t seem to find pattern sites that aren’t just full of spam besides McCall’s, Vogue, and Simplicity. I want more options! please… :)

Well.. that’s my rant of the moment. I really want to just find one today, order it, and start on it.

I will figure out what attributes I like best on each style, and totally combine them to configure the perfect dress. Wish me luck!

I also want to make all of my bridesmaid dresses – so I gotta find a pattern for that too. I’m thinking about having everyone take a vote! oh yeah! mmk. back to the search!

  1. McCall’s Pattern M5807 is really nice. If you could add straps (or even add the Vogue shoulder pieces) it would be perfect for you.

Can I make a suggestion? Why not take a pattern that you “kinda” like and DIY the hell out of it? I mean, if you WANT buttons down the back, just take in the back seam allowance in about 1/4″, and add in buttons. If you don’t like the (as I call it) whipped cream skirt crap, then make it an a-line instead. You could probably even buy 2 or three of those patterns and Frankenstein them TOGETHER!

Don’t you LIKE how DIY I can be?!?!? ;)

Thanks Brooke! I was planning on probably buying 2 or 3 of them and Frankensteining them :) It’s just figuring out exactly which parts I love and want to Frankenstein! haha. It’s a tough choice!
